About
Hi, I’m Sabra (pronounced SAY-bruh).
I first realized my knack for editing in eleventh grade when my English teacher offered extra credit for anyone who could find typos in the literature we read. I was delighted to find several errors that year—and I still can’t help but notice typos and errors in anything I read. In college, I majored in journalism and discovered my true love was editing.
My expertise is in nonfiction, academic writing. With a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Texas Tech University and a master’s degree in information (library) sciences from the University of Tennessee, I’m a generalist and can objectively edit and proofread most subjects, even those unfamiliar to me. One of my favorite things about this gig is getting to read and learn while I work!
I have more than 15 years of editing experience. Professionally, I’ve copy edited and designed sections for a daily newspaper, copy edited tax and accounting handbooks at a publishing company, and edited for academic journals. As a freelancer, I’ve worked directly with clients to edit nonfiction book manuscripts, scholarly articles, theses and dissertations, resumes, college admissions essays, and more. I also have more than 10 years of experience working in higher education, so I understand the scholarly publishing process.
I take the approach of a supportive, hawk-eyed adviser—correcting grammar, syntax, and inconsistencies and also suggesting changes that will make your writing clearer and more effective—all while preserving your personal voice and writing style.
